It is a heart-wrenching reality that childhood cancers are among the least funded areas of cancer research. Despite advancements in medical science, these young patients face a unique battle, with cancer being the leading cause of disease-related death among children. In Canada alone, over 1,400 cases of cancer are diagnosed in children under the age of 15 each year. Sadly, 1 in 5 of these brave young souls do not survive. This statistic is not just a number; it represents real children and families whose lives are turned upside down.

At Cause to Smile, we are committed to changing this narrative. For our 2023 winter giving campaign we are supporting the Phoenix Fund at Alberta Children's Hospital - a program aimed at funding research and treatment for rare childhood cancers. Their goal is not only to increase survival rates but also to improve the quality of life for these children during and after treatment. Your donation can help us make significant strides in this direction.

Here’s how your support can make a difference:
    • Research: Funding innovative research is crucial. Your contribution will enable our scientists and doctors to develop safer, more effective treatment methods tailored for children.
    • Advanced Treatments: Investments in state-of-the-art equipment and therapies can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
    • Support Services: Beyond medical care, children and their families need holistic support. This includes psychological counselling, educational programs, and recreational activities to support their mental and emotional well-being.

Our previous giving campaigns

  • 2022 - Raising funds to fight food insecurity 

    In 2022, inflation took a grip on our community causing the cost of living to skyrocket and forcing people to make impossible decisions between food and other essential needs. Cause to Smile took action by raising funds to support local initiatives that are making a real difference in battling food insecurity for vulnerable Albertan's. With our generous community support, we were able to raise over $15,000 and ensure that all funds made it directly into the hand of the people that needed it most. 

  • 2021 - Fundraising for women and children in need in Calgary and Edmonton

    Cause to Smile was motivated to spread support and reach as far as possible in 2021, and our primary winter initiative accomplished just that. Through the generous support of donors, we raised nearly $50,000 in support of the Women's Emergency Outreach Centre in Edmonton, the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter and the E4C School nutrition program focused on providing critical meals to food insecure school children.

  • 2020 - Donation drive for CWES  

    In 2020 we were able to rally the community to donate both essential items and cash in support of CWES. Through this campaign, CTSF raised over $25,000, or enough funds to provide essential needs and shelter for 10 women and families fleeing dangerous domestic situations. 

  • 2020 - Canadian Blood Drive

    Cause to Smile rallied dentists, patients and supporters in Alberta to show up and roll up their sleeves for the Canadian Blood Bank. All in, through our participation, enough blood was donated to save over 50 people in a life threatening condition. 

It all counts

Whether it's during one of our seasonal fundraising drives, or any other time of year, Cause to Smile ensures that donations make it directly into the hands of those who need it most by donating to the organizations that support them.
