Making an impact in our community

Food is our most basic human need. Let's fight food insecurity together this year. 

Did you know that Alberta has the highest rate of food insecurity in all of Canada? In fact, just over 1 in 5 Alberta households (20.3%) are food insecure, and 6.3% of Alberta households suffer from extreme food insecurity. Extreme insecurity means that families are forced to skip meals, cut meals and in some cases go whole days without eating due to a lack of money. 
 
For 2022, Cause to Smile is on a mission to unite the dental community to make a difference for food-insecure families. We're supporting 4 Alberta initiatives spanning the province that provide immediate impact to families, seniors and individuals that need a helping hand now, more than ever before. With food costs and other household expenses continuing to rise, if there was ever a year to lend a helping hand, this is it. 
 
Your generous gift will be distributed amongst local food bank initiatives, food rescue programs and meal supply programs, and goes directly to the communities that we work and live in, to people who need a helping hand that may have never needed it before.

Our previous giving campaigns

  • 2021 - Fundraising for women and children in need in Calgary and Edmonton

    Cause to Smile was motivated to spread support and reach as far as possible in 2021, and our primary winter initiative accomplished just that. Through the generous support of donors, we raised nearly $50,000 in support of the Women's Emergency Outreach Centre in Edmonton, the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter and the E4C School nutrition program focused on providing critical meals to food insecure school children.

  • 2020 - Donation drive for CWES  

    In 2020 we were able to rally the community to donate both essential items and cash in support of CWES. Through this campaign, CTSF raised over $25,000, or enough funds to provide essential needs and shelter for 10 women and families fleeing dangerous domestic situations. 

  • 2020 - Canadian Blood Drive

    Cause to Smile rallied dentists, patients and supporters in Alberta to show up and roll up their sleeves for the Canadian Blood Bank. All in, through our participation, enough blood was donated to save over 50 people in a life threatening condition. 

It all counts

Whether it's during one of our seasonal fundraising drives, or any other time of year, Cause to Smile ensures that donations make it directly into the hands of those who need it most by donating to the organizations that support them.

In the past 2 years, we have raised more than $75,000 for amazing organizations including:

  • Calgary Women's Energy Shelter
  • Women's Emergency Accommodation Centre in Edmonton,
  • E4C's school nutrition program
  • Canadian Blood Services
  • Momentum Calgary 
  • Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Calgary
